Iraqi Human Rights Society – USA organized a celebration of International Women’s Day

Human Rights Society – USA Branch organized a celebration of International Women’s Day in the Mandai association hall at Warren city in Michigan.

Mrs. Samira Kori and Mr. Salwan Thomas welcomed the audience. They have also welcomed Mr. Adnan Izara Al Majoun, the Consul of Iraq in Detroit, and representatives of political parties and civil organization and the press with a gratitude to their support.

Dr. Sundus Amar, member of the administrative committee of

Human Rights Society – USA Branch made a speech appreciating the role of Iraqi women in claiming for their rights. She called Iraqi government to protect women’s rights in accordance with constitutional legislations and international laws and treaties.

Four research papers were presented by:

Mrs. Talea’a Elias, an activist who discussed the role of women in Iraqi national action.

Mrs. Hanan Sharara who discussed historical role of women and modern society. 

Mrs. Nazik Ward Sabti, a civil activist who discussed the situation of diaspora women.

Mrs. Afaf Ahmed, a journalist who discussed divorce in patriarchal societies.

Poet Hala Sharara, and Dr. Shoruk Al Nakdi recited poetry on the role of women in human society. 

In the end of the ceremony, a few nominated women were awarded with appreciation letters for their role in caring for their families, contributing to build the society, and fighting for their rights.
